Over the last year or so I have been photographing the Neolithic monuments or Dolmen that exist in this area of France. I find them beautiful, fascinating and inspiring. No one know for certain why they were built, long thought to be tombs recent research suggests that they probably had another function, hardly any evidence of contemporary burials has been found, however they were used for later cremation burials in some cases. Also the idea that they were originally covered I earth now seems unlikely, if that were the case the precision of the construction and points of balance unnecessary. They were probably created as tribal status objects or some form of religious site.
This project is ongoing and I hope to visit more sites in the coming months.
